It may seem like FC Gifu had an extended new year holiday (6 days with no official announcements from the club!) but they are back with a couple of new additions to the squad.
Atsushi Mio – previous club: Gainare Tottori
Billed as a midfielder he played almost every minute of every league game for Gainare last year, scoring 4 goals. He helped Tottori gain promotion from the JFL and has also played for Ventforet Kofu & Kyoto Sanga. I like the fact that he seems durable, very rarely gets booked and has good experience in J2. Hattori is not getting any younger and any reinforcements in midfield are most welcome. Another seasoned pro to help the youngsters integrate into the line-up.
Matazou Hirano – previous club: Nippon Sports Science University (日本体育大学)
Not really a lot of information on him, just that he is also a midfielder. I like the signing of some youth to inject into the team. The best reports I can find on him are that he prefers to play on the left side and that has a little bit of flair. He was attached to the FC Tokyo youth set up before going to University. Hirano, along with fellow young gun Ryuji Hirota, should look to try and establish themselves in the midfield this year.
As an aside, it seems that there have been more than a few graduates from the Nippon Sports Science University to graduate to J2 teams this year. Maybe I’ll have a closer look at the stats.
Anyway, welcome boys! We look forward to seeing you in the green of FC Gifu.
