FC Gifu entertain Kumamon and the rest of his Roasso cohorts when they visit Nagaragawa on Sunday evening.
As alluded to in a previous piece, Gifu have had a tough run of games recently having faced Montedio Yamagata, Gamba Osaka & JEF United in their last three games and were presumably looking for some repite with the visit of Roasso. However, there isn’t a hotter team in J2 than Kumamoto. They have won their last 3 games, two away and one at home , and have scored nine goals in the process.
Roasso were looking like relegation candidates not so long ago, but their revival has been sparked by Chikara Fujimoto & Hayato Nakama. Fujimoto, from his midfield position has been more influential these past two or three weeks, while Nakama has bounced back from his sending off at Nagasaki to score in the win at Consadole and play a key role in wins against Tokushima Vortis & Mito Hollyhock.
Gifu must be cursing their luck at the minute. A really fortunate goal for JEF was the undoing of them last week, and they run into Roasso at the worst possible time. It will be interesting to see if Taisuke Mizuno keeps his place in the side ahead of Atsushi Mio, as I’d be temepted to go with Mio in this game. He can play anywhere across the middle and his set-piece delivery is very good. Elsewhere, Desmond looks set to continue in defence despite carrying injuries and the on loan S-Pulse pair of Shibahara & Higuchi will look to provide Gifu’s attacking threat.
