A big weekend at the foot of J2, with a new entry to the relegation party.
FC Gifu 3-1 Giravanz Kitakyushu
Five words: Shogo Tokihisa and Kazuki Someya. Those words easily sum up why Gifu won this game. In the last month, Someya has been one of the best players in the division. Everything good that Gifu does goes through him. He has five goals and three assists in his last four games and he causes a lot of problems for opposition right backs.
Thespa Kusatsu Gunma 2-0 Consadole Sapporo
What has happened to the Thespa Kusatsu Gunma of two months ago? You know, the one that was completely useless, impotent up front and that leaked goals like sieve? Whisper it, but they are unbeaten in their last four outings and that includes impressive wins at Kumamoto and this game against Consadole.
Ehime FC 1-0 Gainare Tottori
Gainare plunged deeper into the relegation mire as Hiroshi Azuma’s second half goal accounts for them at the Ninjineer Stadium. At this moment, there isn’t a worse team than Gainare. It seems almost unbelievable that they beat Vissel Kobe.
Kataller Toyama 0-0 Fagiano Okayama
A very easy result to predict (as, in fact, I did!) between two teams struggling for form. However, things could have been much worse for Kataller had ‘keeper Morita not produced a world class save to deny Yuzuru Shimada. Morita will either doom or save Kataller. Sometimes he is capable of brilliance, but all too often he has mental lapses that would make a 10 year old keeper blush. He needs to step it up.
Roasso Kumamoto 1-2 Vissel Kobe
Welcome to the group Roasso! The were beaten by a last minute penalty in the wet & wild conditions on Sunday. Roasso looked as if they would stay away from trouble after they won at Fagiano Okayama in May but they have lost their last four games to be dragged into the hashtagged zone.
