FC Gifu return to the scene of (in my view) one of their best ever wins when they head to the Alwin Stadium, Matsumoto on Saturday.
Gifu team news:
Gifu will be able to call upon the services of young defender Masanori Abe who eligible after serving his one match suspension. I expect him to get straight back into the team at the expense of Henik. Henik could well find himself in midfield to add an extra bit of strength against a fit & physical Yamaga midfield. Hiroaki Namba performed well when he came on last week and could regain his starting spot from Tomohiro Tanaka.
Matsumoto Yamaga danger man:
It is hard to look past the enigmatic Takayuki Funayama. He always seems to be in the headlines whether it be for flipping the bird, his latest hair colour or smashing in opening day hat-tricks. Look beyond the ego though, and you’ll find a highly accomplished forward who can hurt you in a variety of ways. He has already scored 6 so far this year and so it will be imperative that Gifu formulate a plan to deal with him.
Matsumoto Yamaga’s season so far:
They currently find themselves in 4th position, having won four drawn two and lost two of their opening fixtures. In their last game they drew 2-2 at home with Kyoto Sanga.
Head to head in Matsumoto:
- 2012 – Matsumoto Yamaga 1-0 FC Gifu
- 2013 – Matsumoto Yamaga 1-2 FC Gifu
