News came through today that FC Gifu’s veteran midfielder Atsushi Mio has been sidelined for up to three months after going an operation on his left knee. The injury is to repair some cartilage around the knee, and while it isn’t a mega serious knee operation it is one that needs quite a bit of time to fully recover from.

If Mio misses the maximum stated time of three months, it will take precariously close to the end of the season – but hopefully that isn’t the case. He hasn’t been in the team so much recently, but he is a valuable and versatile squad member. This might make Gifu step up their efforts to secure some more midfield cover in the transfer window.
