FC Gifu fell to their fifth consecutive defeat after a comprehensive 3-0 defeat at fellow mid-table side Tochigi SC.

  • FC Gifu starting XI: Ota, Nogaito, Masuyama, Kitani, Fukaya, Miyazawa, Henik, Takachi, Endo, Higa, Nazarit
  • Bench: Takagi, Sekita, Santos, Kiyomoto, Kleiton Domingues, Tomohiro Tanaka, Namba

The first half was a pretty uneventful affair, with Shun Nogaito & Ryoto Higa going closest for Gifu, and Koji Hirose & ex-Gifu forward Yudai Nishikawa going closest for the hosts.

The second half was a completely different story though, as the hosts took complete control. Tochigi’s first goal came from a corner that Gakuji Ota punched into Yuki Fukaya’s head, the ball then rolling into the net (although Tochigi defender Cha Young Hwan has been given credit for the goal). The second came after Ota produced a superb save to deny Hirose, only to see the rebound fall to Nishikawa who slide the ball in to the empty net. The 3rd came from the spot as Hirose capped a superb individual performance by (just) clipping the ball past Ota.

Really, no-one stood out on this day as no-one played to their potential. Perhaps the only bright spot was the appearance of Tomohiro Tanaka after 5 months out the team. Maybe he’ll be given a run next week.

In any event, they will collectively have to up their game as Matsumoto Yamaga come to town next week. Yikes…..
